OFFICIAL: Women Buy More Online
Mon 09 June 2003

It might be an age-old stereotype, but in that freaky way that activity online mirrors the real-world, so it does here, too. A survey produced by Bizrate.com, reported by eMarketer, showed that the balance of US online buyers in 2002 shifted towards a majority of female buyers.

In Q1, the male/female split was an even 50% to 50%, but by the end of the year, 20% more women were shopping online than men. Overall for the whole year, the figures show online shoppers were 55% female to 45% male as a percentage of the overall population.
