» chinwag: plain text emails

HTML emails aren't suitable to send to any Chinwag lists. The reasons?

  • it doubles the size of the messages sent to the list
  • it means that subscribers who request the digest version of the list get goobledegook and makes it very hard to read
  • insecurities in older email programs could allow viruses or worms to propogate using email

    AOL: We are aware that AOL subscribers can't help themselves when it comes to html emails. We're working on a way of dealing with this but in the meantime, please contact us directly by sending your mail to help@chinwag.com. Please state which list your mail is heading towards. But we do have some solutions other list users...


    Outlook Express: For users of Outlook Express, here is the quick way to disable any type of coding, so that you may post freely to our lists without any bother:

    1. go to "tools" and to "options"
    2. choose "send"
    3. under "mail sending format" choose "plain text"
    4. under "plain text settings" make sure the "encode text using" drop down is set to none.
    The same procedure is also possible on individual contacts in the address book.


    Netscape: And here's the step-by-step guide for Netscape users

    1. look for Preferences under the Edit drop window
    2. look under Mail & Newsgroups for 'Formatting'
    3. click on "convert message into plain text".
    Your mail will now go through to the list unhindered.
